Burn Your Story and Let The Past Go!
Burn Your Story
Write a story about your life
(unlimited), include all of the bad and negative things that you have
experienced or that have happened in your life. Include all past and recent
events. Include all of the people that have caused these negative things
whether intentional or unintentional and also whether or not the inflictions
were the result of your own doing. Read this story to yourself once out loud.
Take a moment to soak it all in, the pain, the hurt, the feelings you felt or
still feel as a result of these events. Cry if you have to. Yell, scream, throw something but make sure no one is there and it doesn't break. Then imagine yourself being free from
the bondage of these events and all the pain these events caused you or other people. Take it in. The freedom of not being there anymore is huge because you are not there anymore are you? The freedom of no one being harmed of you not being harmed or of you not harming anyone else or doing someone else wrong if you did. Let this freedom overwhelm you so much that you feel light as a feather and stronger than you ever have before and take that in and soak in it because you are not there anymore. You are here. Today. Free and if you don't feel free, if things are lingering, if you have stickiness to your past that you don't want moved into your present or future then pull yourself away from it. Put on the right shoes and walk away from all of it because that is your life and you have that freedom and no one can take that from you but you. Then light a match and burn your story. (Note
to facilitator: For Youth Groups: For safety purposes if a match is inappropriate for your
setting, have the youth cut or rip up their story instead of burning it)
Purpose: to release the past and be open to a new beginning.Check out the song below that is perfect for this circumstance and I hope it helps you tremendously!
